Muse-ical Ramblings

August 1, 2008
I’ve decided I really like the Distillers.  Of course I figured this out after they broke up, which means no future albums to look forward to.  But that’s like saying The Clash aren’t worth listening to because Joe Strummer is dead.  It’s just wrong.
Anyway, I’ve been listening to Coral Fang and it’s great stuff.  “The Gallows is God” is my favorite track at the moment.  I love the way Brody sings, “Woah, woah, what a surprise” at the end.  It’s the kind of moment that sticks in my head without my even realizing it’s there.  Something that resonates with me, even though I don’t know what it is yet.  Songs like that are a reminder of why I love punk rock.  I’m sure I could listen to Top 40 hits all day, if I could keep from screaming, but at the end I would have nothing but ear fatigue and weird techno noises stuck in my head.
Punk is different.  It makes me think and feel and relate.  I’m connected to the music, not resentful of it polluting my airspace.  More than that, it makes me happy.  Excuse me, I need to go crank some MCR.
